Dear Friends of Westside,

As I sit at my kitchen table, thinking about how quickly life has changed for everyone, my heart is heavy. Many people are navigating this global health crisis without adequate resources. These uncertain times call for a higher degree of care and concern for all of humanity.

It has been to amazing to witness our ministry team come together with hard work and ingenuity to meet the needs of our students and families. In a matter of hours of learning of Governor Whitmer’s order to close schools, WCA faculty arranged for all students to engage in off-campus learning making it possible for our children to continue to grow academically and spiritually during this time. The administrative team also began and has sustained contingency planning to meet the learning needs of our students and the food and essential supply needs of staff and the families in our care.

During these uncertain times, it has been good to draw additional strength from the prayer and financial partners who are standing with us. Just yesterday, I received a text message from one of our key donors who lives in Florida during the winter months. The first line of his text read, “How is Deborah (my wife) and Robert (my son) and how are things going for Westside?” He went on to say that he and wife are praying. It is good to be reminded that our Westside family extends beyond the walls of those who are regularly in our building.

As we continue to care for ourselves, our families, and the Westside families, it will be vital to know that we can count on your prayers and financial support. The stability of the next few months will be crucial to the close of this school year and the start of next year, our 27th year of ministry in Detroit. Many of you have stood with us in difficult times before, and we hope you will consider holding with us through this global crisis.

If you have not given this school year or gave last year at our banquet, we are asking that you would prayerfully consider giving during this time. If you have given this year, we are asking you to prayerfully consider an additional sacrificial donation to help us ensure meeting our budgetary needs by the end of June. Online donations can be made at https://www.westsideca.org/givetowestside. We need our faithful donor community to engage with our mission and help us reach our financial needs in this time of uncertainty. As we face these unprecedented times in human history, may we live with caution, prudence, and abiding faith in our Creator.

God is in the midst of His creation, and He is in control (Psalm 46).

Serving with JOY,
Henry Wells III
